Southeastern Trust for Parks and Land acquires Preservation Oaks Nature Preserve

ATLANTA (April 30, 2023) – Southeastern Trust for Parks and Land (SE Trust), a non-profit which acquires and stewards land for conservation, recreation, and community, is proud to announce the acquisition of Preservation Oaks Nature Preserve in the City of Johns Creek in north Fulton County, Georgia. The preserve is at the corner of Jones Bridge Road and Oak Bridge Road near the Chattahoochee River. SE Trust will perpetually protect and care for this neighborhood green space. It will always be natural land that is available for public use for the quiet enjoyment of nature.

This 0.8-acre property was initially acquired and conserved in 1994 by Southeast Land Preservation Trust ( www.slpt.org ). SLPT protected and cared for the site for 30 years as the trees grew bigger and development intensified around it. In 2022 the boards of directors for Southeast Land Preservation Trust and SE Trust each agreed that Preservation Oaks would benefit from inclusion in SE Trust’s pocket nature preserve program and a transfer of ownership occurred in April 2023.

This site is a little less than an acre, and as its name implies, has a history of big oak trees. It is a simple little green space without any public use amenities and there is no on-site parking for visitors. SE Trust’s stewardship goals for Preservation Oaks are to let the oak trees grow and undertake some small-scale native pollinator and bird habitat enhancement projects. SE Trust’s Director of Conservation Keith Ray notes “This place is truly a gem, where our expertise in native habitat improvements will help with local ecosystem functions. It will make this a place of enjoyment, for the neighbors and the wildlife.”

“We, along with the nearby neighbors, are grateful for Southeast Land Preservation Trust’s foresight in acquiring this land and we are honored to be entrusted to protect and steward it” said Bill Jones, Executive Director, SE Trust. “This sweet little nature preserve has been loved and cared for by the nearby homeowners, and it will continue to benefit generations to come.”
