SE Trust Celebrates Opening of Aerotropolis Nature Park

The ribbon-cutting at 48-acre Aerotropolis Nature Park in South Fulton, Ga happened on July 20, 2023! This is SE Trust’s 13th nature park! It was built on land owned by SE Trust using private money from several partners. It is permanently preserved to be a nature park available for free public use. Something good happened for conservation, recreation, and community! Project partners include City of South Fulton, Mountain Bike Atlanta, Georgia Cycling Association, and Bearings Bike Works. Funding was provided by the Chestnut Family Foundation, SE Trust, and Walton Lakes Apartment Community.

This nature park has an innovative mountain bike skills development area made up of three downhill trails with graduated elements. For example, the 101 trail has places that require navigating between rocks that aren’t that close together, on the 202 trail the rocks are a little close, and on the 301 the rocks are only a few inches apart. Get experience and practice navigating elements of mountain bike trails in a small area at your own speed. It’s free and open to all. It’s labeled on the trail map. It’s not intimidating at all.

Aerotropolis Nature Park is in the Piedmont ecoregion of Georgia.  Like much of this region of the State, it was former agriculture land with scattered home sites, It now consists primarily of mixed pine/hardwoods which is a typical mid-successional vegetation type for previously disturbed areas.  In the riparian areas near creeks there are mature bottomland hardwoods. And there are some areas of mature oak-hickory forest and mature pine stands on the higher areas.
